Real World 03:38
Real World When you started school they put you in a uniform Read you out a list of rules, showed you how you must conform 'Cause that's the way life is in the 'real world' You have to be prepared for living in the 'real world'. Boys learned woodwork, girls do sowing, It is so important to know you are going. Worked your youth away learning useless facts by heart Save it for a rainy day and if you pass they call you smart And say that you are ready for the 'real world' You're tailored to fit for living in the 'real world'. Girls learned cooking, boys did rowing It was so important to get where you were going. But then you find that all this time Was spent to bind your arms behind your back! They put you in a straight jacket Working for your pay packet And you've got to build a reputation To be a part of it all It's such a dangerous occupation Having your back to the wall With nowhere to crawl. Real world, real world, real world, real world, real world. How do you think you do it Staying all those years At school looking up to your peers? Were you really happy? Are you happy now? Do you think you'll ever be? Do you know how??? And so you find that all this time Was spent to bind your arms behind your back! They put you in a straight jacket Working for your pay packet And you've got to build a reputation To be a part of it all It's such a dangerous occupation Having your back to the wall With nowhere to crawl. Real world, real world, real world, real world! Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1980 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

Pop Song 03:34
Pop Song This will be a popular song That you will hear all the time So you learn to sing along. Over and over again it will play Until you believe all the things that the compares say, and the DJ. Nobody cares what it's about As long as its sells then it's good Beyond all doubt Into the charts going up going down Just like a ride on a musical merry-go-round This song is destined to be number one So stand aside because here it comes. Here it comes, hear it come.... Lead break Hear the DJ... Every week on a TV show You can see a different clip of a video Fresh faced boys on centre stage Turning all the crowds into fits Of hot wet raaaage. This song is destined to be number one So stand aside because here it comes. Here it comes, hear it come.... We've just been told how many you've sold We've just been told you're going gold Going gold... going gold... going gooooold!!!!!!!! This will be a popular song This will be a popular song This will be a popular song yes it will This will be a popular song song song.... Moonbase-One 02:40
Moonbase-One Well it’s good to be back on moon base-one I’ve been to Earth and it’s not much fun But now I’m here I have to say I’m really sorry that I went away. The streets are crammed with garbage cans The smog’s so thick it slows the fans And people fight to stop the war While the president's men keep the score (but) Chorus: Life here is just a dream The view is great and the water’s clean And I don’t think I’ll be going down again. No motor cars no crowded bars Next weekend I’m going to Mars You know it beats a holiday in Spain. Late at night when they cut the lights And the boys come in from the Shuttle flights We grab a drink and have a 'smoke' or two And watch the Earth going down so blue. The lunar scenes are something strange All the greys and greens of the mountain range I can’t tell the thrill it brings I wouldn’t trade it for anything (‘cause) Chorus: Life here is just a dream The view is great and the water’s clean And I don’t think I’ll be going down again. No motor cars no crowded bars Next weekend I’m going to Mars you know it beats a holiday in Spain. Kazoo break Chorus: Life here is just a dream The view is great and the water’s clean And I don’t think I’ll be going down again. No motor cars no crowded bars Next weekend I’m going to Mars you know it beats a holiday in Spain. And I'm not going down again... Photoscan 03:07
Photoscan When I drive through town I know I'm on your screen I can see you looking down Why can't you hear me screaming... Change the lights!! In department stores I hide behind displays and dodge electric doors With ultra-sonic rays... I'm on TV! It's photoscan, under surveillance Photoscan, better stay in line Photoscan, never had a chance Photoscan, the world's watching you, all the time! Eyes, millions and millions of eyes I can see them, up on top of buildings In hallways, doorways Vacant crystals of finely polished glass Engrossed by our every move. I always used to think it was just paranoia But now I know it's all too real, too real. Don't laugh and say it's science fiction You can't put a lens in every room Besides it's only a prediction Just like putting men onto the Moon. It's photoscan, I'm under surveillance Photoscan, better stay in line Photoscan, never had a chance Photoscan, the world is watching you, all the time! All the time... all the time... Digital Dreamland Children with computer eyes Reflect the bright electric skies Where cities feed from satellites A billion bits in megabytes. Basic language on their lips Crystallised in microchips Beat the system, break the code Save it, verify and load. Living in a digital dreamland Electrons flashing across the screen We’re living in a digital dreamland There’s still so much for us to dream… We play our songs on laser disc And face a guided missile risk While businessmen with 10k watches Calculate the cost of scotches. Remote control of situations Play the games or change the station Set the microwave for dinner Even mother is a winner. Living in a digital dreamland Electrons flashing across the screen We’re living in a digital dreamland There’s still so much for us to dream… As knowledge spreads between us And the truth begins to shine Our microchips and floppy disks May liberate our minds Liberate your mind… Living in a digital dreamland Electrons flashing across the screen We’re living in a digital dreamland There’s still so much for us to dream… Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1983 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

Insect 03:35
Insect If reality was a space-game Think of all the rules to obey If reality was a space-game Would you even bother to play? Controlled and directed You play out your destiny Secure and protected You say "the world does what's best for me". You're an insect in a concrete hive Working your way through the nine to five It seems such a waste of energy Surely our goal is to set ourselves free? If you saw your life as a movie Would you recommend it to friends If you saw your life as a movie Do you think you'd stay to the end Don't you get tired Of being pushed around? Aren't you inspired To break some new ground? You're an insect in a concrete hive Working your way through the nine to five It seems such a waste of energy Surely our goal is to set ourselves free? Instrumental break You're an insect in a concrete hive Working your way through the nine to five It seems such a waste of energy Surely our goal is to set ourselves free? Set ourselves free - ourselves... Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1983 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

We Know 02:47
We Know They keep telling us Don't do too much when you're young Or you'll have nothing to do later on (Hey, you can't limit someone's reality like that!) They keep telling us Take your time tomorrow can wait Resign yourself to the going rate. (You have to be kidding, we have to explore all the possibilities!) We know there's no limitation We know within our imagination They keep telling us Don't make waves or you'll capsize Play your part and claim your prize. (No way, we're going to swim off to a new horizon!) They keep telling us Dream your dreams but come back down Build your future on solid ground (Can't you understand we just want to be free!!) We know there's no limitation We know within our imagination Capture every moment as it flashes by Reach on up and see if you can touch the sky Expanding as you grow 'Cause there's so much left to know! Instrumental We know there's no limitation We know within our imagination Be the universal child eternally Turn on, tune in, listen close and you will see The future's in your hands and they've got to understand. Can Man 02:54
Can Man Yes folks it's Thursday night shopping again, The night we all go hunting for food at the supermarket. Whizzing down the isle ways with our trolleys, running over babies, Ever watchful for those elusive Specials on the top shelf! I went to the market to get my tea Trying to find a meal for a hungry man. All I saw staring back at me Were photos of food on the front of a can. Tasty, easy, quick to prepare There's nothing you chew you can exclude. Entrees, main course, more if you dare All coloured and flavours til it looks like food! Man one day will find a way To open tins with his fingernail Silver hands to grip the cans Of processed food that won't go stale... That's because it's full of goodness Like stabilisers, monosodium glutamate, starch, emulsifiers, anti-oxidant, beef extract, gluten, preservative, colouring? Towering shelves of carrots and beans, The sweet and sour sauce and of course the Spam. I can't read labels to see what that means But it must be OK if it comes from a can (it comes from a can!!!) Decision, decision what will I eat Something in here must suit my mood. The quality now is hard to beat Providing that you weren't expecting food!!!! Man one day will find a way To open tins with his fingernail Silver hands to grip the cans Of processed food that won't go stale... It won't go... stale It won't go... stale It won't go... stale It won't go... It won't go... It won't go... Staaaale! Forget them all Mr West We know what's best! Wishful Thinking Don't show me the truth I can cover my eyes, pretend I'm blind. Don't tell me truth I'd rather hear nice lies anytime. I need all the warmth that I can draw The world's easy to ignore There's only wishful thinking To save me from sinking Through the floor... through the floor. Don't ask me to change I stick in the mud but I'm secure Don't force me to change I am a disease that has no cure. This way is a way I understand A trodden trail that's close at hand And there's always wishful thinking To save me from sinking Through the floor... through the floor. Lead break Don't ask for my love Don't tell me your life could follow mine. I wouldn't ask for your love Wouldn't snatch at your freedom from behind. There was a chance but how dreams fade Now we're lost in the charade All I have is wishful thinking To save me from sinking Through the floor... through the floor. Don't ask for my love Don't ask me to change Don't show me the truth. Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1981 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

Temple of Love We have so much To share with each other Our sprit, body and mind We need the touch of a sensual lover To keep us closer in time. You found your way there’s no reason to hide Throw off the mask and come inside… The temple of love (x4) In ecstacy and bliss With an angel’s kiss. The shadows dance As we move through the gateway Into the hall of our dreams Take chance make it real today Find what love really means. It’s heaven on earth it can’t be denied You know what it’s worth so come inside… The temple of love (x4) In ecstacy and bliss With an angel’s kiss. And when we finally make it To that sacred place, We’re in heaven. All the love is flowing through us There’s no time or space, We’re in heaven… Towards the source we ride the tide And hear the force whisper child come inside… The temple of love (x4) In ecstacy and bliss With an angel’s kiss. In ecstacy and bliss In the temple of love. Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1989 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

A Joke 02:55
A Joke A joke, a joke, it's got to be a joke. One day they'll lift off the lid Look down and say "Hey listen kid You've been fooled for a million years, So have a laugh before you cry the tears." A joke, a joke, it's all a silly joke. It started as a game you see For DNA and you and me To build a spiral staircase to the stars But now we've all forgotten who we are (who are we?). I can't see you smiling any more It seems like the joke has become a bore. Lead nylon guitar. A joke, a joke, it's got to be a joke. Running round like bumbling b's With bloody hands grubby knees Calling to the Gods to save our Souls Then hurry home the roast is going cold. I can't see you smiling any more It seems like the joke has become a bore. Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1983 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

Abyss 03:31
Abyss There is a place we will be going And it’s out into space our rockets glowing Down behind us, they won’t blind us. No hidden force to drag you down It’ just a matter of course, leaving the ground Far below us, they won’t know us. Heading for a nearby constellation Guided by electric computation. Across the abyss we sleep in silence Timeless bodies of bliss held in suspense Of what we’ll find there, will they have minds there. Awake to a dream warmed by a new sun That has never been seen before by anyone We’ll grow there the seeds we so there. Living in a nearby constellation Guided by our own imagination. What are we waiting for When there’s so much to explore???? They won't know us.... Words and music by Japetus © Copyright 1983 Written, arranged, engineered and produced by Jay Moxham

Attic Dreamer I looked around You were being stupid again Head in the ground Cobwebs through your brain. You leave yourself open Just like an all-night cafe Well baby here's hoping Your dreams don't fade away. I know there's so many ways It's easy to be confused But don't walk around in a daze Just claiming your senses have fused. Attic dreamer Put yourself into gear Some time schemer Prove to them that you have no fear You have no fear. Lost in the crowd Looking like everyone else Head in the clouds Not feeling what's being felt. Completely detached From all cause and effect Your itch has been scratched But you still fail to connect. I know there's so many games It's easy to be confused But that doesn't alter the blame Just claiming you've only been used. Attic dreamer Put yourself into gear Some time schemer Prove to them that you have no fear You have no fear. Lead break The choice is yours You are responsible Try opening doors Anything is possible. Hype 03:34
Hype They supply the image To which we aspire And when we reach it Still have to climb higher. No longer conscious We do as we're told Over the top and Out of control. Hype it up - Hype! Pick the people when they're ripe Hype it up - Hype! Build it up to the stereotype Hype it up - Hype! Pick the people when they're ripe Hype it up - Hype! Build it up to the stereotype If there's a profit And a frenzy to feed Doesn't seem to matter much What the people need. It's just another instinct Abused since you were a child Stimulate the ego Watch them all go wild. Hype it up - Hype! Pick the people when they're ripe Hype it up - Hype! (Ronald Raygun and) Nuclear Cowboys I saw Ronald Raygun On the late late movie Quite a tough guy A real smoothy. He was Sheriff of Cheyenne Quick on the draw But all of the townsfolk Knew that he stood for the law. Because he shoots from the hip With a wink in his eye A smile on his lips No he never says die. A man killed his brother He said "the outlaw must hang" So the Sheriff alone Went out after the gang. Well they fought in a canyon He got shot in the arm But captured him anyhow By keeping perfectly calm. He always shoots from the hip With a wink in his eye A smile on his lips No he never says die. But then I remembered it was only a movie And they were all actors playing a part Nobody really gets hurt by the bullets How can your bleed when you don't have a heart? Ronald Raygun and the nuclear cowboys Ronald Raygun and the nuclear cowboys Ronald Raygun and the nuclear cowboys Ronald Raygun and the nuclear cowboys. I saw Ronald Raygun On the late night news He was playing a major role As a political stooge. It's a long time since Hollywood And sure people can change But a movie-star President Still seems kind of strange. Oh he shoots from the hip With a wink in his eye A smile on his lips No he never says die. As I thought of the movie From the morning before I wondered if anyone Knew what was in store. Would armies of robots With six-gun in hand Make Soviet Russia The new Rio Grand?? Ah he still shoots from the hip With a wink in his eye A smile on his lips No he never says die. I hope they remember It isn't a movie We're not actors Playing a part. People are real And get killed by the rockets Scream as you burn At the men with no heart. Time Bomb Surprise Explode in your head The words that I said There's no time to turn away from it The blast it will burn. Come closer to me So you can see The white's of my eyes reflecting the view Of a timebomb surprise. You'll all have to go I wasn't to know That your name's on the list of planets to die An expandible twist. So look to the sky Don't wonder why Your notes out of key with the rest of the tune Just fly with me. Fly... and you'll find out... what it's all about. It's a simple colour code on a musical box It's the lady in your bed or the holes in your sox It's a powerful force it's a surprise to you all A notion, a potion, you're gonna fall. about

Crazy, young and frustrated with the ways of the world, The Crazoids was a futuristic, early-80's Pop music project created by Jay Moxham, that reflected upon the quirky sides of humanity as it approached the challenges of the 21st century.

This collection of demo tracks is being 'released' here under the album title of Real World. They are presented here purely in an historical context for posterity's sake because it is unlikely that they will ever be fully professionally recorded. But who knows, maybe some astute record company executive will finally have a vision for them?!

However, considering the year and the conditions of the recording, they've lasted well. They are being presented as though the internet existed in 1983 and, like many of the bands today who record in their bedrooms, The Crazoids could instantly and easily upload and access an audience of listeners across Australia and the world.

All of these songs were recorded between 1980 and 1983 in Jay and Paul's analogue 8-track home studio that they built in their lounge room in Willoughby, Sydney.

Each of the songs is in a different state of completion so the mixes differ a lot plus because these tracks were digitised from high quality cassettes and then processed, the quality is not ideal.

Still, even compared to many tracks playing on Unearthed today, they stand up pretty well, as a reminder of a time that never was.
